On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century
by Timothy Snyder
- How do we defend American institutions and civil society groups?
- “Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the twentieth century.” How can we learn from experience?
- The path of least resistance leads directly from inevitability to eternity.” How can we avoid this path?
Snyder provides 20 plain and mostly actionable lessons on preventing, or at least forestalling, the repression of lives and minds. Approach this short book the same you would a medical pamphlet warning about an infectious disease. Read it carefully and be on the lookout for symptoms.” (Daniel W. Drezner, The New York Times Book Review)
