We are honored to have Florence Graves, an investigative journalist and a Needham resident, as our speaker for our 84th Annual Meeting. Florence’s career has focused on investigating and reporting on civil and human rights violations. Her results have been directed not only at the concerned public, but also to government policymakers, corporate executives, regulators and other major influencers.
Florence has investigated and reported on issues as diverse as sexual misconduct in the US Senate, faulty research on artificial sweeteners, the squelching of testimony that could have supported Anita Hill’s allegations in the Clarence Thomas nomination hearings, and the FAA’s failure to investigate allegations that unapproved manufactured parts were installed on airplanes. Her results have been published in major newspapers and magazines, such as the Washington Post and Boston Globe Magazine. She founded the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University, which focused on three major projects: the Political and Social Justice Project, the Gender & Justice Project, and the Justice Brandeis Innocence Project.
Ms. Graves continues to serve as a Director on the Justice Brandeis Law Project at Brandeis University, where much of her work has centered on overturning wrongful convictions. Her story of doggedly pursuing investigations and ensuring that her findings are shared is an inspiration to anyone striving for justice for all.
