LWV-Needham Archives Enshrined
at the Needham History Center and Museum
The 80+ years of the League of Women Voters of Needham history has been diligently converted by a team of League members from a pile of decaying scrapbooks and boxes of miscellaneous papers, clippings, and notes into a series of binders chronicling the remarkable achievements from the League of Women Voters of Needham.
These archives will be donated to the Needham History Center and Museum to keep them in perpetuity. To commemorate the passing of these precious archives from the basements of past board members to a permanent home at the Needham History Center and Museum, we are planning two activities for our members.
LWV Day of Action–Preserve Our History
Before we pass on our archives to the History Center, we would like to prepare a complete historical record to post on our website and keep with our own records. On February 14, 2024, the birthday of the League of Women Voters of the United States, Leagues across the country will select a project for that day. This year, League members will look through the newly organized archives by year to 1) complete a checklist of materials available that year (e.g. bulletin, voter guide, yearbook, etc.) and 2) select an impactful activity or event from that year to possibly go into our historical record.
We will meet throughout the day in shifts on February 14 to complete this task. More information will be forthcoming to members in the February Bulletin.
Reception at the History Center–Celebrate LWV-Needham and Its History
On Sunday, March 10, at 2 pm, we will have a commemorative reception at the Needham History Center and Museum as we turn our precious archives over to the Center. Members, former members, and guests will be welcome to share in the celebration of LWV-Needham–its past and future. The archives will be on display for perusing. We will also reveal the findings from the Day of Action review of our most impactful endeavors.
