The League of Women Voters of Needham and the Needham High School Social Studies Department co-sponsored Students Advocate for Change, the Needham High School Civics Showcase, on Saturday, May 30 at 2-3:30 PM at Powers Hall, Needham Town Hall.

We hosted nearly 100 students in 39 groups presenting their civics projects to Community Advisors and attendees.

Watch the one-minute slide show from the Showcase below! Read the article about this year’s Showcase in the Needham Local.

Here is the list of advocacy issues presented.

Prior to the Showcase, 11th grade students are making their Advocacy Plans with their teachers and classmates. LWV-Needham has prepared a Student Advocacy Guide and a series of videos for the students’ reference.

Also included is a list of MA legislative bills and Needham issues that students may find useful for choosing their issue area. Students are not limited to the issues on these lists. A list with links t0 Advocacy Groups can help with students’ research.

Be a Community Advisor

What is a Community Advisor?

Community Advisors will be assigned to visit five or six student groups. Students will benefit from engaging with you by discussing their issues. We anticipate it will take 45-60 minutes to visit your groups, and you are welcome to visit more.

Sign up to be a Community Advisor. For questions about being a Community Advisor email here.
