Last day to register to vote in this election: Wednesday, November 17, 2021. See If you have already registered to vote in Needham, such as for the fall elections, you do not have to register again. Check your voter registration status at the MA Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website.

Election Day voting is safe and requires less paper. Masks and social distancing are required.

Apply for a Ballot

Early Vote By Mail and Absentee Voting are both available. Early Vote By Mail has no eligibility requirements. The procedures are similar, but the application forms are different.

Complete the application form. Be sure to sign it.

Submit the signed application to Town Clerk, Theodora Eaton, by email, fax, US mail, or Red Drop Box.

The last day to apply for an Early Vote By Mail or Absentee Ballot by mail is 5 pm on Wednesday, December 1.
The last day to apply for an Absentee Ballot in person is 12:00 noon on Monday, December 6.

Please submit your application early to allow time for your ballot to be mailed to you and for you to return your completed ballot so it reaches Town Hall by close of polls to be counted (8 pm on December 7).

Upon receiving the application, the Town Clerk will mail you a ballot.

Mail/Drop Off the Ballot

After you receive the ballot in the mail, mark the ballot, complete and sign the inner affidavit envelope, and return the completed ballot (sealed inside inner envelope) to the Town Clerk by mail, at the Town Clerk’s Office, or the Drop Box in front of Town Hall.  Once the completed Early Vote By Mail or Absentee Ballot is received, the voter’s process of voting is complete and may not be changed. Note that the Track My Ballot tool that was available for the fall 2020 elections is not available for local elections.

For US Mail, you must add proper postage ($.73). The Drop Box requires no postage and is the big red box in front of Town Hall, near Highland Avenue.

All mail-in ballots must be received by the close of polls on election day, December 7. The polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm.

Please Note

Some of the features that were available for the fall 2020 state election are not available for local elections.

  • You must apply for an Early Vote By Mail ballot for this election; it will not be automatically mailed to you.
  • The online portal for requesting a ballot is not available for local elections.
  • The Track My Ballot function is also not available for local elections.
  • The return envelope does not have pre-paid postage. Please affix proper postage (2 stamps are more than enough) if you are using US mail.
