The League Year 2023-2024 In Review

League year (May 2023-May 2024) highlights:

  • For the fourth year in a row, LWV-Needham is the largest local League in Massachusetts as of the annual February 1 roster update, with 204 members.
  • Supported LWV-Needham at Needham High School Club.
  • Supported Action Teams for immigration, gender equity, and housing.
  • Annual Meeting with speaker Susan Retick. Greta Schirmer award to Stacie Shapiro, lifetime members Maureen McCaffrey, Sally Toran, Sharon & Len Solzberg.
  • Co-hosted (with Needham High Sch00l) NHS Civics Showcase with over 100 students presenting their advocacy projects.
  • Participated in the Needham Parade on July 4, 2023.
  • Voter registration/information for voters at North Hill and Harvest Fair.
  • Fall Forum with representatives from Needham’s news sources.
  • Several advocacy events advocating for bills state-wide.
  • Held League-wide Winterfest/Planning meeting, with a focus on Needham’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
  • Participated in national Day of Action finalizing our archives.
  • Held reception at the History Center and Museum, and turned over 16 binders containing 80 years of LWVN History.
  • Completed the LWVN study on Needham Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
  • For local election (April 2024):
  • Encouraged people to run through posts and “How to Run” training, Voter Guide, Candidates Night, website gateway for information on the election.
  • Make Your Own VOTE Signs initiative.
  • Co-produced (with the Needham Channel) 8 get-out-the-vote public service announcements (PSAs) shared via Facebook and Twitter the April election.
  • Town Meeting Warrant Meetings and 25-year awards.
